What is a Kickstarter? How does it work?

Kickstarter.com is a platform where creators can launch projects that need funding. Essentially, you purchase the product in advance, and the creators use that money to make the product a reality.
This Kickstarter will only last for 30 days. In that time, I am looking to raise $5,000 to fund the first print run of my new book.
With your help I am confident we can hit that goal!

Here is some more information on the Book

Welcome to the World of Map Making!

What is it?

This is a children's book. It has a story, a character and lots of pictures. But that's not all.

You see, this is a How-to-Draw-a-Map Book disguised as a children's book. While you read this book to your little humans, you will actually be learning some basic principles of fantasy map making. Such as the very important order map elements should be drawn in.

What is the Story?

Earl is a wise old tortoise who is wandering the Land of Nowhere when he finds something peculiar: a piece of paper and a pen.

Everything he draws on that piece of paper becomes real.

If he draws a Castle on  the page...
A castle appears in real life.
If he draws mountains on the page...
Mountains burst out of the ground.

Map Making Tips and Tricks

At the back of the book there is a recipe for making maps.

Secret Recipe for Map Making. Handed down for almost 1 generation

It includes step by step instructions and also helpful practice pages.

Some mountains are transparent so you can trace over them to build muscle memory.

You can either draw directly in the book, or print out copies of these pages for repeated use.

Some reference and inspiration material (included in the book)

Is it just for kids?

No! I didn't make the writing childish or overly simple. I expect adults to be borrowing this book from their kids (with their permission) to use as a reference for their map making endeavors.

My 3 year old loved the pictures, and my 8 month old loved to eat the pages. So, I'll put the age from 3 to 300 years old

Who made the book?

I did. I wrote the words, drew the pictures and colored them.

Detail shot from one of the pages

I am Isaac Dushku. I come from the exotic land of Centerville, Utah. It's probably on your bucket list to visit. For the past 4 years I've been drawing maps as the "Lord of Maps" online.

I draw "fantasy" maps of real world places, but also do tutorial videos on how to draw maps. They have become increasingly popular.

I figured I should make a fun, simple book to address lots of the questions I've been getting. This is that book.
